Talkin bout my generation
‘Talkin bout my generation’ As a baby boomer, living in the U.S.A. has changed in the last forty years. The 60’s became an era of conscience awakening, of basic instincts which will always live on. That is human rights, acceptance of people not based on race, religion, origin, and most of all, making love, not war. Good ideas will always be good ideas. As teenagers, a lot of us just wanted to be able to grow our hair if we felt so led. A quick way to get tossed out of school. Corporal punishment existed in most schools. The teachers ruled, like it or not. Along about this same time came the ‘British Invasion’ The Beatles, Stones, the Who (never could understand the stuttering part in ‘Talking bout my generation’) just to name a few. Americas music scene evolved into a new level of style in concert with the Brits and soon, ‘all you need is love’ was the thinking of a lot of the baby boomers, many were aka ‘hippies’ Yes it was a great time to be alive in, optimism of a really positive change for the world was here! Their was an issue, Viet Nam; what was called a ‘Conflict’ not a war, needed to be reckoned with. Was it worth it? The human loss of life, the suffering, the disabilities, the post traumatic stress, the suicides of American Troops, unprecedented. And the cost? That number is still growing each day. Today, some forty years later, the changes in this planet and the advancements are amazing! Scientific, medical, technology, communication, you name it, it’s phenomenal! Thiers only one area that we haven’t made any significant progress. This is the one that if worked on as the top, number one priority of mankind would free up all those other areas of advancement to really make even better progress. What is it? Let’s stop killing one another… Well whoever reads this, thanks. Just my view as a baby boomer of life. And my thoughts on making this a better life. PEACE! |
